The Freight Broker’s Technology Stack: What Matters, and What Is Changing

An unranked guide to the systems a brokerage desk actually runs. Vendors are named only where their own pages sell to brokers. Freight Broker News has no commercial relationship with any of them.

Guide. Unranked, unsponsored, and limited to vendors whose own materials say they serve brokers.

This is a guide, not a ranking and not a sponsorship. Vendors appear only when their own pages, or a primary announcement, say the product is for freight brokers. Inside each category the names are alphabetical. Omission is not a verdict. Freight Broker News has no commercial relationship with any company named here, and no one paid for a place on the list.

A brokerage stack is a set of jobs, not a single login. The jobs below are the ones a desk already staffs. New AI tools sit on top of them. They do not replace the list.

System of record

McLeod Software, PowerBroker. McLeod markets PowerBroker to brokerages and 3PLs for dispatch, carrier management, tracking, accounting, and settlements. For a large share of established brokerages this is the book of record. LoadMaster, McLeod’s carrier system, is a different product for a different operator. Do not let a demo blur them.

Revenova. Revenova sells a Salesforce-native TMS aimed at freight brokers, which means the customer record and the load record live in the same environment. That is a real category difference from a standalone brokerage TMS, not a quality score.

Most of the tools further down this page claim to write back to whatever system of record you already have. That claim is the whole implementation. If the write-back is a nightly file, you do not have an integration. You have a second place to type.

Finding a truck

DAT One. DAT sells a load board to brokers for posting freight and finding capacity, with rate tools bundled into DAT plans. It is infrastructure. It is also where a bad carrier can look like capacity if nobody checks identity before the rate con goes out.

Truckstop. Truckstop’s broker load board is the other default: post a load, search carriers, and, on higher tiers, book through Book It Now. Plenty of desks pay for both boards. Paying for both is not indecision. The boards do not have the same trucks on them every morning.

Who the carrier is

Descartes MyCarrierPortal. Marketed to brokers for onboarding: identity, W-9, insurance, and fraud checks. Envoy AI says its Ellie Verified product uses MyCarrierPortal and Highway. That is an example of a new tool depending on an old one, which is how this layer actually gets used.

Dollar Traq. Dollar Traq describes an AI operating system for U.S. freight brokers built around carrier trust: vetting, fraud detection, insurance verification, load tracking, and a conditional payment the company calls DT Pay. That is Dollar Traq’s account of the product. It is not a result this desk measured, and it is not a ranking against the other names in this section.

For onboarding, the company says it runs KYC on the business and its officers, uses a third-party facial liveness check matched to an ID, and captures and validates a CDL. Cases it is not sure about go to a person. Dollar Traq describes a Sentinel agent that resolves an MC and an identity against a self-hosted FMCSA dataset, assigns a Trust Score, and looks for fraud signals on carrier email: domain age, lookalike domains, and a phone number that does not match the FMCSA record. The company also says Sentinel monitors authority and insurance changes. The descriptions are on Dollar Traq’s carrier onboarding, Sentinel, and product pages. This guide has no customer, funding figure, or adoption number for Dollar Traq.

Highway. Highway sells Carrier Identity to brokers and says, in its August 20, 2025 growth-equity release, that it serves more than 1,050 brokers. The customer count is the company’s claim. The amount of the FTV Capital investment was not disclosed. The job is the one fraud has made expensive: knowing that the carrier on the phone is the carrier on the authority.

Federal operating authority is the public baseline underneath these products. Dollar Traq says Sentinel checks identity against its own copy of FMCSA data. A portal does not replace looking at the authority. It is supposed to make the check repeatable.

Where the truck is

Descartes MacroPoint. Sold to brokers and 3PLs for load tracking. This is the check call as a ping, when the carrier is actually on the network.

Trucker Tools. Sells broker load tracking and now brands the product as Trucker Tools by DAT. Tracking is not a solved problem because a tool exists. It is solved on the loads whose drivers have the app, and it is a phone call on the loads whose drivers do not.

What the lane should pay

Greenscreens.ai. Now part of Triumph. Triumph’s May 8, 2025 announcement describes machine-learning rate prediction for brokers and states the purchase price: $140 million in cash plus 256,984 Triumph shares. A pricing model is only as useful as the loads you refuse when the model and the customer disagree.

DAT’s rate tools travel with DAT’s own plans. They are a second example in this category, not a comparison.

Getting paid

Denim. Sells factoring and payments for brokers. Cash timing is an operating problem, especially when a shipper’s term and a carrier’s quick-pay demand do not match. A factor is a capital choice. It is not a TMS feature you notice on a demo.

TriumphPay. Triumph’s payments product for brokers, alongside the Greenscreens acquisition, covers payment and invoice audit. Audit is where margin goes to die quietly: an accessorial that never made it from the rate con onto the invoice.

The newer layer

Parade. Sells capacity management for brokers. CoDriver is its assistant for carrier email and calls. Parade’s $17 million round in 2023, reported by FreightWaves with I Squared Capital as lead, is context, not a reason to prefer it.

HappyRobot, Augment, Envoy AI, and Freight Hero are the companies in our other briefings. HappyRobot’s documented brokerage work is communication and the records around it. Augment’s Augie is pitched across quote-to-cash and, in the Werner announcement, at load building inside a TMS. Envoy’s Ellie is a browser agent for carrier execution that the company’s terms say must stop for a human on the booking. Freight Hero, per its lead investor, is an AI-plus-human service for the back office rather than a login. Read those pieces before you treat the four names as one category. They are not interchangeable, and none of them is a sponsor of this guide.

Phone, email, and SMS are part of every one of those products. This guide does not name a separate communications vendor, because we did not verify a broker-specific phone system the way we verified the companies above. A generic VoIP seat is a utility. It is not a brokerage product.

A judgment, labeled as one

If this desk were spending a brokerage’s next software dollar, the order would be: a system of record people actually enter loads in, then carrier identity, then the repetitive communication that eats a rep’s afternoon, then the audit between delivery and the invoice. That order is a view, not a ranking of the names above. A desk that is losing money to double-brokering does not have an AI problem first. A desk that cannot produce a clean rate con does not have a pricing-model problem first.

The integrations worth watching are the boring ones. Envoy saying Ellie checks carriers through Highway and MyCarrierPortal. Augment saying Augie enters an order in Werner’s TMS. Those sentences describe a stack. A slide that says “we connect to everything” does not.

The capital piece explains why so many of these categories have a funding headline attached. Money is not a shortlist. The analysis is the longer argument for separating an assistant, a workflow tool, and a managed service before you sign.
